About the Lugbara language
Lugbara, also known as High Lugbara, Logbara, Lubarati or Western Lugbara is a language of Uganda.
It has over 1,100,000 users in Bushenyi district: Ishaka municipality; Kiruhuura, Rubirizi, Isingiro, Mbarara, Ntungamo, and Ibanda districts; also Kasese, Kamwenge, and Kabale districts.
Dialects of Lugbara include; Arua (Standard Lugbara), Maracha, Terego (Omugo). It has a substantial Lexical similarity with Maracha ad Terego dialects, Arua and Terego dialects, Arua dialect and Ogoko Southern Madi and Arua dialect and Okollo Southern Madi.
Lugbara’s literacy campaign is in progress (2012). It is taught in primary and secondary schools, as a subject and is also available in Literature.
